NCR Trail – Bentley Springs – Maryland

The NCR Trail – Bentley Springs Parking lot

is located at about the 15.9 mile marker. The parking lot is off of Bentley Road in Bentley Springs/Parkton, Maryland.

These daylilys were growing on July 23, 2012 along Beetree Run, the NCR Trail (15.8 mile marker) and Bentley Road. According to what I have read, these flowers die overnight and new ones grow on the same plant the next day!

At one time, there were at least two sets of active railroad tracks in place of the NCR Trail. There was also a post office in Bentley Springs. According to the Friday November 17, 1899 edition of the Baltimore Sun (Page 7) “Bentley Springs Postmaster Gone”. The guy was tired of the duties and “left on the 2 o’clock train” to Baltimore “and has not been herd of since”. From the article, it looks like he left on the Wednesday November 15, 1899. By the way, back then the postmaster was paid “about $150 a year.”
