AB3BO

is the Amateur Radio Station that I operate in my home Ham Shack.

In the Shack is a Kenwood TS-480HX HF radio (rig). This radio is the 200 Watt model.

The Radio feeds an SGC SG-239 Smartuner using RG8x Coax.

The SGC SG-239 Smartuner is housed in a plastic container"" which is mounted outside under a Sun Room.

The SGC SG-239 Smartuner feeds a homebrew antenna using 450 Ohm Ladder Line.

The Homebrew antenna is in the form of a horizontal delta loop using PVC tubing (for insulators), rope, trees and 12 AWG THHN Solid Building Wire.

For digital control operations, the RS232 port of the Kenwood TS-480HX HF radio is connected using a 6 Foot Db9 9 Pin Serial Port Cable Female / Female RS232 cable.

The RS232 cable"" connects to a Gigaware Serial – USB adapter.

The USB plug of the Gigaware Serial – USB adapter connects to the USB port on the HP ZV6000 Notebook.

For audio/data, there is a 6 pin mini din (male) cable from the Kenwood TS-480HX"" to 5 pin din (male) that connects into a (repaired) BuxComm Rascal interface. The BuxComm Rascal interface was originally for a Kenwood TS-2000, but was struck by lightening, jury rigged, and home repaired for this Kenwood TS-480HX.

The Repaired Rascal feeds a hard wired cable with a mic/aux and speaker/headphone plug for connection to the HP ZV6000 Notebook.

Often this setup uses a USB Sound Card between the PC and the Rascal. This frees up the HP ZV6000 Notebook Mic/Headphone"" jacks for other uses. The HDE 7.1 Channel and 5.1 3D Sound adapters both work fine!

The HP ZV6000 Notebook is loaded with Windows XP and Ham Radio Deluxe 5.0 Build 2893 (including Digital Master 780).

The Kenwood TS-480HX HF radio and the SGC SG-239 Smartuner are powered by Astron 20 Amp Power Supply and an old Kenwood PS-52 22 Amp Power Supply. Not sure exactly which particular power supply feeds the SGC SG-239 Smartuner.

Below are some images of one of the HF systems I have enjoyed using for the past few years!

This station is used mostly on the digital PSK31 mode. Usually in the 15-24 watt range. Even though the

radio is capable of 200 Watts it has never been operated at that level! This system works great. It is enjoyable to use!

The Ant1 port on the radio is used for experimentation.
