NCR Trail – Nice Walk – Ashland – Paper Mill

August 8, 2014 was a nice day to park at the NCR Trail, Paper Mill Road parking lot and wallk the trail for a few miles. I started by working my way down to the 0 mile marker (Ashland) and walked backup the trail past the 1.5 mile marker. The trail was fairly busy. There were people fishing, walkers, bikers, and folks pushing babies in strollers!

The image below shows some of the walkers and bikers.

At one time there were railroad tracks that occupied this trail.

According to an article in the Baltimore Sun, Dated February 3, 1923, .. “last night a freight train and an engine were in a head on collision”  .. “four freight cars were wrecked and a number of hogs were killed.”. The incident left many commuters stranded! ..”Many hogs escape”. No indication in the article of people being killed.
